Swansea BID is the only BID in Wales. The BID allows 700+ businesses in the City Centre to identify key issues that impact on their trading and start projects to tackle them. Swansea BID was voted in by business in the City Centre of Swansea in 2006 to develop and deliver improvements on the following core objectives - Transport and Access, Supporting and Attracting business, Raising the Profile, Brightening the City Centre, and Safe and Secure. Based on these core objectives Swansea BID has delivered the following –

  • Reduced violent crime & disorder by 68%
  • Reduced retail crime by 12%
  • Won a national City Centre cleansing award making Swansea City Centre cleanest City Centre in the Country.
  • Brought in over 150,000 people into the City Centre through events such as Swansea Live, Get Welsh etc.
  • Instrumental in making Swansea the safest University City in the Country = Increasing student recruitment = Increasing business for our members
  • Brought in over 100,000 vehicles into the City Centre through car parking initiatives.
  • Brought in an extra 3m pounds into City Centre businesses based on an average retail spend of £12 per person.
  • Reduced our member's costs by over £5,000 per year/£25,000 over BID term if all BID Member Benefits are taken. 
     

Swansea BID member will have the opportunity to vote on continuing Swansea BID in March 2011, with this in mind we aim to delivery the following with a successful re vote –

  • We will aim to reduce violent crime and disorder further
  • We will aim to reduce retail crime further
  • We will aim to win national cleansing awards and making City Centre cleaner.
  • We will aim to increase events and foot-flow into City Centre
  • We will aim to increase car parking/transportation incentives and foot-flow
  • We will aim to make the BID Levy an investment not a cost to our members. 
     

Without Swansea BID the below will cease –

  • NO City Centre rangers (2) helping reduce retail crime by 12%
  • NO Taxi Marshals reducing violent crime and disorder by 68%
  • NO City Centre cleansers reducing day-day clean standards/customer experience
  • NO Additional customer retail spend of over 3 million pounds
  • NO FREE car parking incentives bringing in over 100,000 vehicles
  • NO Events bringing in over 100,000 people into City Centre
  • NO Foot-flow cameras offering tangable support and information to members
  • NO FREE/discounted marketing packages worth £2,000*
  • NO FREE Graffiti removal/rapid response cleansing worth £1,100*
  • NO FREE/Discounted recycling worth £1,400*
  • NO FREE/discounted professional body memberships worth £1,000*
  • NO 56% discounted business car parking schemes worth £420*
  • NO 2.3M investment into the City Centre benefiting members
